Dr Anthia Rallis

MB, BS, FRANZCOG

Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist

Visiting Medical Specialist, Women’s and Children’s Hospital, North Adelaide.

I was born and raised in Adelaide, where I undertook secondary school and tertiary education. I completed my medical studies at the University of Adelaide, where I developed my passion for obstetrics and gynaecology during her penultimate year rotation at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

In 2006, I commenced specialty training in obstetrics and gynaecology. Over the subsequent years, I have balanced the demands of specialty training with raising a young family.

In my final years of training, I worked in the Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, acquiring skills to care for families experiencing high risk pregnancies or requiring such procedures as amniocentesis and surveillance ultrasound. During these years I also furthered my training in generalised gynaecological surgery including laparoscopy.

I have a special interest in high-risk obstetrics and teaching. I dedicate time to assisting other obstetrics and gynaecology trainees in achieving academic success in their exams and sits on the faculty of tutors for the Birth Masterclass. This class aims to improve the skills of obstetricians in complicated vaginal birth, including the safe delivery of twins, babies in the breech position and babies requiring rotation during delivery.

My other areas of interest include reproductive health and sub-fertility, general gynaecology, mature women’s health, gynaecological and laparoscopic surgery, and colposcopy.

My skills are supported by academic achievement. In 2011, I was awarded the medal for Outstanding Academic Achievement in my final exams. This medal is awarded to the candidate achieving the highest score across Australia and New Zealand in their final exams.

I live with my partner Tim and three children, Zachary, Alexis and Matisse. We live and encourage an active lifestyle, with regular personal training and Tim, both competing in and coaching at an elite level in road cycling. I have a strong connection to family and this comes across in my work. Where possible, Tim and I enjoy spending time with the extended family, with our children being exposed to my Greek heritage.

I am fluent in both written and spoken Greek.
